I've read that Steel wool is not recommended for cleaning antennas or
around any electrical equipment.
Myself I much prefer the ScotchBright(TM) pads. You can get attachments
to fasten the pads to the small, orbital sanders and I believe I've seen
attachments for electric drills as well.
