Coiling the coax through the cores is more effective than a string of beads.
I use (depending on frequency) 5 or 6 turns of Davis BuryFlex through 5
or 6, 2.4" #31 mix cores at the feed point of my 160, 75 and 40 meter
antennas. The cores are left exposed to the elements. Is that a good
idea? Ask again in a couple years. The 40 meter current balun has been
up a bit over a year while the 75 meter one has been up for just a few
months. I have to work on the 160 half sloper and may replace that with
a remote tuner.
