Greetings John!
I did the same mod. I too got my info from WD0M's site. I have a TX-472 that I
did the mod for the tower raising fixture and the tower as well. The TX-472
weighs too much for my DeWalt Spade Handle DW 130V I have to try and extend the
tower up. It works great on the raising fixture both raising and laying the
tower over because it is a variable speed drill and you can control the rate at
which you raise or lower. Lowering is important because you don't want to
burnish the brakes on the winch by going too fast for too long when laying the
tower over. My DeWalt however would not budge the TX-472 tower to extend it
up. If you have a lighter tower you should be OK. I just invested in a
Milwawkee "Hole Hog" heavy duty drill to see if it will work. The one draw back
on this drill is that it is only two speeds. Low speed is 300 rpm and I will
have to take precaution to brace the brace handle in such a manner to keep it
manageable to see if it will extend the tower up when I need to
. This drill has been known to break a wrist or arm if not used properly or
when it binds up on the user. Of course this was from drilling holes in studs
and concrete. I just received the drill today and need to study how I intend to
do this bracing to see if it is up to the task on intermittent low speed to
extend my tower back up after having been lowered. I sure hope this drill
works. Not that I don't need a work out every now and then. It really is a work
out lowering and extending this tower when I need to.

Hi John go to Joe WD0M's web site http://www.wd0m.com/winchadapter.html and
here's what you need.. I've done it myself and works great..just make sure
you have a stout drill.

Subject: [TowerTalk] Winch Adapter
Hi,
I have a US Tower with the Fulton winches. Some time ago I saw a posting or
article describing how to make an adapter to use a large electric drill to
drive the winch. I could have sworn that I saved it but I sure can't find
it...can anyone help?
Thanks...John kb9tpg
