If they still offer it, also consider the two element Force 12 Magnum 240N.
Unlike most shorty 40's, it covers both the CW and phone segments of the
band, is about 80% full size, but is relatively lightweight.
Has performed great for me and stood up to the wx at 120ft without any
problems for more than a decade.

I would like to concur with what Larry said. I have a Cushcraft XM240 and it
is a very good antenna. It is also light and sturdy. I had an experience
with the 4 element KLM 40 and found it to work about the same as my 2
element Cushcraft but was considerable less sturdy in the wind. The boom
broke in half in less than a year. You probably should weigh the positives
and negatives of such a large antenna with what you get in return. I am very
nearly on the honor roll with this antenna, just be sure to get your antenna
high enough to make all the effort worthwhile.

Do what you like, but I am very content with the "shorty forty" two element
that is on my Force 12 6BA. I got it in part because of the limited
windload on my (conservatively rated) tower, but I must say, I am extremely
content with the performance.
Even two shortened elements gives you a very big leg up on everyone else.
I worked VU7 on my first call very early on after I bought it, finished up
WAZ with it, and basically haven't looked back. I get about half the band
for BW and that seems to be plenty. I have missed nothing I needed. I
don't think I would want the complexity of 3 or 4 elements, especially full
sized, on 40.
