I bought 120’ of R55 used ... it came with 2 sets of guys – both 5/16” ... all
preassembled using 1/2” thimbles and big grips at one end and 1/2” thimbles and
clamps at the other ... Their individual lengths are too short for my one top
guy use (1/2 of the guy is philly 11200#, 1/2 using 5/16” EHS) ... but if I
remove the 3 saddle clamps on one end only I can ‘couple’ the two together
(using thimble to thimble) and then use a new big grip at the ground/turnbuckle
end...

These are all in excellent looking condition – not a hint of anything – just a
nice dull gray color. Nothing looks bad ...

so the questions is : there isn’t any reason as long as I don’t take the big
grip off and reuse it. It would only be used at the top end – as is - to ‘mate’
to the phillystrand. Both again using 1/2” thimbles. No reason why I can’t do
this – right? The big grip will last for decades – even if it was up – then
down and if it went up (on a tower) again as long as a) there is no
deterioration and b) they’ve not been removed and reused ....

right?
