Suitably sized, tinned split bolt connectors on low diagonals or
horizontals might be a good option in these cases.

Not every tower is bolted to a base plate set in concrete. Many of us, me
included, bury 4 ft or so of the lower tower segment in the concrete base,
thus the need for clamps.
