for ground movement, in addition to thermal expansion/contraction, typically
"snaking" the conduit runs to allow for all movement. If one is burying
conduits in expansive clay soils, PVC conduit would not be a good choice for
direct burial, as the pressure exerted on it from soil/clay expansion can crush
it, making rigid steel conduit or precast concrete conduits a better choice, if
one does not want to encase the PVC in concrete.
