Thanks for all the recommendations. This tree doesn't have any low 
branches, and I can't reach around it. The original tree was about 20 
feet away(leaning over garage). I like the 2 holes 120degs with dowels. 
For now I'll just use 2 pieces of wood with some coated scews.
