If I remember my statics 101 correctly, in the direction of the wide
axis, the two 4 X 4 posts will be stronger. but only if they are glued
together. With glue, the 4 X 8 post will be 8 times as strong as a
single 4 X 4, a 6 X 6 only about 5 times as strong as a single 4 X 4.
Two 4 X 4's bolted together will only be twice as strong as a single 4 X 4.

Given these 2 choices and everything else being equal, which would be the
strongest choice for a wooden post to attach a guy wire?
a) 2- 4x4 posts bolted together to make a single 4" x 8" post with the
eyebolt on a 4" face
b) a 6" x 6" post
