Subject: [TowerTalk] HF Yagi side mount gate design

[External Email]

Doing some early noodling for side mounting HF Yagis on 55G. Please, thoughts
and ideas on rotating gate's sizing. I'm perfectly comfortable with designing
brackets, masts, rotors and etc but get lost on how long (far from tower) the
gate should be. The amount of rotation can be <up to> 300 deg or so, but the
distance of the inner elements from the mast may reduce the available rotation.
Of course if the inner elements are really close to the mast then the antenna
cannot rotate at all. And if the gate is too long the load on the tower and
side mount gets really high, and the gate must be really strong.

Anyone have any rules of thumb, animations, videos, drawings and so on? TIA
