Boy,there sure are a lot of good ideas going around now that we got past the
blaming part. One thing that I think hampers some from getting on is the
thought "I'll never win".I think it is important when we hear a new callsign
during our regular operating or during a contest is to thank the new guy for
the point and try to make him feel welcomed.Maybe just maybe he will get the
feeling that he is going something good and will try to get on again.I want
to mention about RG-58.I'n my club we have tried 2 meters but have been
hampered by the use of poor equipment.I remember one FD that I wasn't very
involved in the set-up because I was going to a different FD,they thought a
DIPOLE would work well on 2 meters!!Needless to say they didn't make one q
and most thought I was nuts for enjoying the vhf bands so much.I'm not sure
how to inform "Joe 706" about tha equipment side of what is needed for a
reasonable station but we need to.Maybe a rule change for FD to increase the
points for all 2 m and above qsos would help more get on.In our club which
has 80 members of which maybe 25 are active in club stuff we have a hard
enough time keeping the 3 hf stations going.I really wanted to have my 2
6M-9KHW's up and running but I ran out time,I wanted to give those who never
listened to 6m hear what it can sound like during FD (we have FD at my
farm).Next year!!One more thing,I wish there was a way to equalize the
scoring because of the population differences in America.Living near Green
Bay,WI where the closest big city is 200 miles away is a little more of a
challenge. We have more cows in our county then people! But it isn't going to
keep me from getting on and having a ball, besides no one said life was fair
and if they did they were lying!! Gregg K9KL
