Mike - in that radio there are 4 "grain of wheat" submini bulbs, 2 strings 
of 2 in series. Electronic Goldmine has these for one. On the side of the 
display board with the VFO knob there's a TO-220 transistor sourcing each 
string through a 10 ohm SMT resistor. I almost changed these to 3 mm LED's 
but when I saw how easy to replace I didn't bother. 4 screws hold the 
display assembly to the frame. You can un-cinch the flex cable to make room 
to work.
