The FT-857 has the ability to set the SSB and FM audio levels
separately, which is a plus for multiple-ops without having audio
that is way overdriven on FM, etc.

Also the FT-857 does have a "transverter" mode that will assist with
tuning, although I've never used it.

Finally it has a mode the other poster may not be aware of that you
can "stretch" the frequency display out so it's covering the whole
screen, so the size of screen issues really aren't a big deal.

Great filters are available for the FT-857 as add-on features, as
well as the TXCO option for frequency stability.

There are some reported issues with oscillation on 6m on the FT-857
YahooGroups list - not an "epidemic" but the early non "D" models
seem to have the most reports.

In all, it's a nice "evolutionary" upgrade from the FT-100D.
