A North Carolina team (W4BFB) won the National
Championship of the ARRL September VHF contest
in 1979; this was during the pre-Grid Square era.
Multipliers were ARRL sections. - W4BFB was QRV
for the first 24 hours of the contest. The band was open
during the entire 24 hours from the mid-west to Canada.
Tropo was BIG on 6M and above.

On 2M, W4BFB logged 1017 QSOs and 39 ARRL
sections, which represented 58% of the continental USA.
How many grids? No clue; too much work to determine.
But, a monster good weekend for a bunch of VHFers.

73 - Ted (W4VHF)
Charlotte, NC
