It is a form of spotting - and the rules only allow this for multi op.

It is not ok for single ops to use ping jockey - and from what
you describe it might not be ok based on actions you describe for
any category to use ping jockey.

It would be fine to make contacts via wifi.
I am not sure what the channel limits are to make sure all
of your transmissions are in the amateur bands.
