Operated the CQWW VHF contest from Grid DN02aw, Juniper Mtn 6700', Lake
County, Oregon. The weather was typical for S.E. Oregon in mid July,
very warm, complicated by heavy smoke from forest fires in Northern
California. The smoke made for beautiful sunsets.

Propagation on six was good most of the day, Saturday, with openings to
the mid-west and later to the east coast. Worked a number of grids in
CT, NY, PA, including K1TOL FN44, ME. for his DN02 qso for the FFMA
award. Sunday started out good with nice opening to the mid-west, then
the band folded and had to really dig for the few Q's worked till the
contest ended. The six meter station was 350w to 5 ele yagi.

Two meters saw no E's openings from this location. The best prop on two
meters was actually Friday, the day before the contest, working a number
of ops with strong signals from the California, Central Valley and SF
Bay area's. W6OMF, CM98, was at times solid S-9+. For the contest, two
meter bests were AJ6T CM87 cw, (406 miles) and VE7IRA CN89 ssb, (458
miles) plus VE7XF CN89 cw. The two meter station was 350 watts to 12 ele
K1FO.

I had planned on operating on Monday but took down the antennas, Sunday
evening, based on forecast of
possible lightning early the next day. Sure enough, 3:30 am Monday
awakened to hard rain. At first light we
broke camp and got off the mountain. Saw a couple of strikes shortly
after getting out to the main road!

Thanks to all who worked me.

219 Q's: 97 Mult's: Raw Score: 21,243.
