I concur with Jim's statements 100%. Steve and Sandra are awesome to work
with.
I built my DEMI 222-28 transverter from the kit. Due to my lack of
experience with transverters
there were several problems to troubleshoot. Steve and I exchanged many
emails and I finally
ended up sending it to them for a diagnosis. It was repaired and on its way
back to me
within 10 days.
If you have experience building kits or have a resource available to you to
help you along,
I'll bet they came ship you the kit within a few days. If you have the time
to build it,
have good soldering skills and can work with some surface mount components
you'll have it ready
before the contest. I spent about 20 hours constructing mine. If you have
never built something
like this, don't attempt it without help. The assembly manual assumes that
you have experience
with transverters and the many ways that they can be configured for use. It
is not a step-by-step
instruction manual (ala Heathkit). Will I build another one, absolutely. The
experience I gained from
building this one will help for the next one.

Keep in mind that Steve and Sandra have been moving DEMI from NJ to Florida
these past several months. I am sure we all know how hard it is to just
move your personal belongings to a new residence so I can not even imagine
what it takes to move a business like that. Also keep in mind that DEMI has
always been a one man and woman shop. They have never been fast and I too
have waited patiently for several months to get something from them. Every
time I see Steve and/or Sandra at a hamfest or conference I always shake
their hands and thank them for providing us the service they do. Keep in
mind that without them we would have NO ONE in the US supplying transverters
or any other equipment for the VHF and higher bands. You can always buy the
DB6NT stuff from Germany, pay an arm and a leg, deal with customs, etc. if
you wish. Or you can call HRO or one of the other mass market ham radio
dealers but good luck getting anything for 222, 903, etc. out of them. If
you can't kerchunk a repeater with it they don't carry it.
