Some repeaters are remotely linked with the phone system.. thus using
non-amateur means of communication.. (i'm diggin deep :-p )
more than likely is is a rule made eons ago, by someone who worked on
the contest rule committee . They lost the contest, because their
competitor used a repeater to drum up a few more contacts. How very
unfair....
