I agree that one of the downsides to the digital modes is how it's affected
the QSO rate on SSB....  In the 80s I could keep pace with the best of
operators on voice modes.....      However, it's now the rare exception
that I don't have to repeatedly ask for folks to repeat their callsigns due
to poor QUALITY hearing....   I still work the locals OK on SSB because I
know/recognize them from habit.   And, for the record, hearing aids
actually make it WORSE (regardless of hearing aid brand/technology).   Even
P25/C4FM/DMR/etc "clear mode" FM sounds like mush to me...  So you can
imagine how SSB sounds to me.

Again, "I get it"...  however for some of us, the digital modes allow us to
still enjoy the hobby, regardless of what old age or loud hobbies have done
to us over the years.
