Bill,
Try this. Open a Writelog log. Go to Setup, Display Format..., click in
the box labeled Transmit Frequency. Now log a qso using VFO B and see what
is recorded. On the FT1000mp at least (don't know about the Mark V version)
the TRANSMIT frequency is recorded from VFO B. The only thing neither the
radio nor writelog can know is that your intention was to receive on VFO B.
Since the Split status is also on what gets recorded is VFO A for receive -
as it should for SPLIT
Does this happen with the Mark V? What else do you want to do with your radio??
