Just a follow up note:
The Icom 756 line has a fised line out AND it does have transmit audio.
I did have to attenuate it so I could run a reasonable gain control on the
line is.
BUT it does work great !! And now that WL have the VU meters it the sound
control panel
it all is very smooth to set up.

Tedious but it works.
