In the previous post, I carelessly talked about "wl.ini" - and there is no such file.

It's actually c:\windows\writelog.ini (assuming Windows is installed in the default location on drive c).

I'd forgotten that, because I don't ever open writelog.ini manually for editing - instead, I use a shortcut added to the "WriteLog v10" program group. Here's how:

1. Open Windows Explorer, and navigate into the directory
c:\windows\start menu\programs\WriteLog v10

2. Right-click on a blank area of that directory (not on any existing file or folder name) and in the popup menu choose New... Shortcut. A wizard dialog opens.

3. Into the blank "Command line" field, type
c:\windows\write.exe writelog.ini (note the space after exe)
Click "Next >".

4. In "Select a name for the shortcut", type
Edit WriteLog.ini
Click "Finish".

To use this shortcut, click the Start button at the bottom left of your screen, and choose Programs... WriteLog v10. At the bottom of the sub-menu of WL programs, you'll see a new icon at the bottom named "Edit WriteLog.ini". Simply click it and you're in!

WordPad is much better than Notepad for editing such a long file. It also has useful keyboard shortcuts, like Ctrl-F for Find, and Ctrl-S for Save.

(If you don't have WordPad as part of your present installation of Windows, go to Start / Settings / Control Panel / Add/Remove Programs / Windows Setup / Accessories. At the bottom of the Accessories list, check "WordPad" and then click OK a few times. You'll be asked for your Windows install CD.)

Alternatively, install the specialist ini file editor mentioned regularly in this list, and open it using a shortcut in the same "WriteLog v10" program group.

I hope that's useful.
