Hard to say what you are not doing but I just setup 7 Win2000 machines 
from scratch all talking to each other in Writelog.

If you are using a 'Hub' like I am, then you will need to setup IP 
addresses for each machine and a work group.   I wonder if you did this? 
 If you are using a LINKSYS DSLrouter, than you should be able to let 
the DSL router assign the IP addresses(DHCP).

You have to be able to see each machine on the network before even 
trying Writelog.
