I recently upgraded the computer I use with Writelog to one of the latest ASUS
motherboards (P5K Premium). After doing this upgrade I experienced nothing but
disfunction in using RittyRite through USB/Serial devices; PCI serial cards and
also the single native com1 port on the motherboard. Most of the faults showed
up as blue screen errors that indicated a crashed system as well as framing
errors, parity errors, and bit (level) errors. Very frustrating. I tried a
number of different solutions to no avail.
The solution was found when I used one of the PCI-E "short slot" busses with a
card purchased from New Egg over the internet. The cost was approximately $35
and the company who made the card is BYTECC (part # BT-PE2S). The card has
worked with all versions of RittyRite and there are no driver problems
associated with the card. My understanding is that the PCI-E handles
interrupts in a different manner than a standard PCI buss.
Hope this helps people who might experience similar problems.
Ben, KR6E
