Interesting. I also currently have an ASUS motherboard (M2NPV-VM) that
has a COM1 problem. I discovered the problem
after having no luck with getting MMTTY or any other app to work with
COM1.
I discovered after trial and error that Disabling then Enabling the COM1
driver that COM1 replaces the standard COM1
IRQ4 with IRQ7 and then COM1 works fine. So I guess IRQ4 is toast on my
motherboard for some unknown reason. I have to Disable then Enable the
COM1 driver after every reboot if I want to run any application that
uses COM1.
My first ASUS mobo (different model) had it's built-in IO controller die
corrupting our C:/ drive with it. Thought that was a fluke. No more
ASUS mobos for me after the COM1 IRQ4 problem with this last one.
