I use the same exchange macro for both modes because I want to send
his call first anyway in both: "hiscall 599 001 001 001". I then
optionally concatenate either his call or my call (or nothing)
depending on conditions just by hitting the appropriate key for the
additional call.
If I actually wanted to occasionally leave his call out of the
exchange as you recommend below, I would just not include his call in
the exchange macro, and hit the additional "hiscall" key ahead of the exchange.
And I also have to occasionally do the "my call is ... " phrase, and
a couple others, but I touch type well anyway, so never bothered to
program things that are only needed 2-3 times in a contest.
The only other macro that gets much use here is " agn agn ", and I
can concatenate two of them to lengthen it, or put "hiscall" ahead of
or after it when that makes sense.
If I had different sets of macros for S&P vs RUN, I think I would
have trouble remembering which set to use sometimes. "one set does
all" makes it easier for me.
Notice I repeat the SN twice in the first paragraph above - I think
everyone should. When sending two, often one is scrambled and you
really don't know which of the two is correct. Send me three and I
will pick the two that agree. The SN is the payload of the entire
QSO. It amazes me that some guys will spend 10-15 seconds sending
trivia and then shortchange the payload. And some guys will send it
only once - what are _they_ thinking? We never achieve rates in RTTY
contests where the 60 - 70 msec to send 3 characters is critical.
