Yes, I do believe WIN 8.1 is the cause of this problem. But I am not
familiar enough with WIN 8.0 or 8.1 to figure out how to find this.
I can find the WRITELOG Folder OK and see all the files in it but don't
know what to look for as far as the registration code.
The old PC I mentioned that I can still access WRITELOG on uses WIN 7.
I have the original registration code on the email order confirmation but
it has expired and no longer works.
If I start all over on the new PC running WIN 8.1 will the new install
find my previous contest logs and save them? WRITELOG did work FB on this
new PC as it came with WIN 8.0. Then I was told I should allow the PC to
upgrade to 8.1 for better security. (Every time I turned it on it would ask
if I wanted to update to 8.1). Since updating from WIN 8.0 to 8.1 I can no
longer open WRITELOG.
It is only fair I pay for a new subscription. I just hope not to lose my
contest files from my original subscription.

When trying a brand new installation I got to the box where it asks for my
call sign and registration code. On entering my registration code it tells
me it is invalid or expired so I will order the program and start as a new
user. I just hope the WRITELOG files I already have on the PC won't mess up
the new installation and that my prior contest files will be saved.
I purchased the program in Feb 2013 so it has been a year and has expired.
However, I thought you could still open and use the program but could not
do
updates without a new subscription. But it will not attempt to open; it
just
tells me I have a bad registration code.
What I find strange is I pulled my old PC that I no longer use out of the
garage on which I first installed WRITELOG on. When I click on the WRITELOG
shortcut the program opens FB and shows ver 11.14B Sept 2013. There are no
contest files in the program because I never used that PC in a contest. But
I find it strange that the program will open normally and I would guess
would work using ver 11.14B if I wanted to use it that way. But I will get
a
new install for the current contest PC.

The version you purchased and updates for a year should work just fine so I
think the issue is to simply re-install the version you bought. You should
have an email which came with the necessary instructions and links.
I do not use Windows 8 myself and having just upgraded my shack computer
from Win XP pro, I will probably skip Win8 altogether unless I end up
buying
another PC - so I am not familiar with the various defaults in terms of
directories.
I suspect the reason Writelog is not running and referring to an invalid
code is because its looking in a directory and not finding your valid code
- which is no doubt on the computer just not "visible" to writelog.
Try a clean install and see if that works.
