Can I transfer Writelog version 11 files that are on a XP hard drive to
the new version(12) and Windows 7?
If so what would be the proper procedure.

I have been using XP for a long time and just now upgrading to 7.

If you mean transfer your contest log files, sure you can. I typically use
a USB drive. The default file location likely changed, but it should be
easy to find.

Writelog 12 question.

I have been playing with Pre-fills for an up coming contest.

It works fine, but when I load the pre-fills and restart the contest, I get
?Failed to ipen ADI preset file.

Is there a naming convention for the preset files? (besides being .adi files)

What directory should they be in so I don?t have to search for them each time?

Thanks,

Tony

It works fine on my V12 installation. Did you do a Save Configuration and Save
file? I just tested it and did not save the configuration. The next time I
started WriteLog, Prefill was not enabled but I didn't get an error.

I don't think it matters where the file is located. My prefill files are located in a
"Prefill" folder in the WriteLog "Contest" folder.

It shouldn't matter, but what contest module is this happening in?

I appreciate the overwhelming response I got from the many pleas for help to
get V12 to run.
I give up.
If anyone thinks they can run it (V12), I will give you my copy.

The location of the preset file is specified with the menu entry
Tools/Preset... Nothing in WriteLog cares about the specific directory
you choose.

That location is written into the .wl file when you File/Save. When you
later do File/Open of that .wl file, then WriteLog cares: the .adi file
needs to still be where it was when you did the File/Save.

The above is true for both V11 and V12, although the error message when
the adi file cannot be found is one of the improvements in V12.

WriteLog versions 11 and 12 can read each other's .wl files.

The two versions cannot, however, use the on-screen window positions in
each other's .wl files. When moving .wl files from one machine to
another, even with the same version, the on-screen positions might not
be useful anyway if the monitors on the two PCs are different enough
(two monitors versus one, or vastly different resolutions, etc.)

Whenever I File/Open a .wl file from off-machine, I generally hold down
the CTRL key which, in both V11 and V12, omits reading the on-screen
window positions even if the version matches. Otherwise I can have
trouble figuring out where stuff is :-)
