Brian,
        Sounds pretty sypical of Yeasu's.  I couldn't believe it when I
noticed my FT-530 getting hot when it was doing nothing but RECEIVING!
Very poor power regulation design.  As compared to my old Icom 32-AT which
could run all month on a single charge, I am lucky if my FT-530 will make
it to the end of the day.
