Sandy,
Glad to hear your experience was positve. In April 1998, I sent a FT8100
in for service and the return time was approximately 8 weeks. I apologize
for the bandwidth but I've got to get this one off my chest and see if I'm
the only one who has had this happen. With that said, let me clarify:

o - Dayton 1997, FT8100 purchased from Michigan Radio.
o - Radio was first sent to Michigan Radio who did not see a problem and
sent the radio back to me. I was out approx. $20.00 in shipping charges.
They acted as if they didn't want to be bothered with me.
o - Ran the rig for about 10 more months only to notice the receive was
WAAAAY down. I called Michigan Radio, they advised to send it back (still
under warranty). It turned out to be a burned out pin diode in the
duplexer. I sent it back, they sent it to Yaesu for service, they called
about 7 weeks later that the radio was fixed and they needed a credit card
for the shipping. I gave it to them and much to my chagrin, I found out
that I paid to ship the radio to them, for them to ship the radio to Yaesu,
for yaesu to ship it back and for them to ship it to me. Why didn't they
just advise me to ship it direct to Yaesu instead of quadruple dipping on me
and adding 2-3 weeks to the repair not to mention the few days they most
definitely sat on it??? Also, when the radio wasn't back after about 4
weeks,I called for a status and was met with the most rude, discourteous
service I have EVER had from any vendor of any kind. To quote exactly,
when I called, gave my name and inquired about the radio, the lady I spoke
to asked someone else in the office (without covering up the phone so I
could here) about the status and I heard, "Tell that guy I got stack of
orders two feet high here!!! We just got back from Dayton and I don't know
where in the hell his radio is!!!". Very rude, very poor business. If I
spoke to one of my customers like that, I would most likely be fired.
Michigan Radio simply won't get any more of my business. The extra few
bucks is worth it to go through AES and Ham Radio Outlet. Their virtually
no hassle returns (repair/warrantly returns....) is worth it!!!

I was pretty much turned off to Yaesu. Now, the radio needs sent back again
for replacement of the transmit switching diodes. I am sending direct to
Yaesu this time. Let's hope the third time is a charm.

Thanks for letting me vent on this one. It still fumes me!!!!!

Well ... one fellow mentioned that the turn around time at
Yaesu Service is around 7 weeks ... my experience is a bit
different.

In the past year, I have submitted two Yaesu rigs for
service. The first was a year ago ... an old FT-757GX/II.
I was quoted 6 weeks for service and return ... the actual
time was around 3 weeks.

My most recent experience is with a newer item, still under
warranty ... that product was turned around in a little over
two weeks from the time I took it down to the UPS center, until
the time it showed up on my doorstep. FANTASTIC!

BIG TIME KUDOS to the Yaesu Service Center crew. I received my
rig only a few days after I received the yellow post card from
them saying it would be taking about two weeks .....

FWIW .... I've also used the main Yaesu service center in
Kawaguchi, Japan when I lived over there ...I've ALWAYS been
pleased with their response ... and the costs weren't bad
either.
