You also have to be careful tapping a toroid. If the core doesn't
have enough flux leakage, it can develop extremely high circulating
currents in the turns.
As a general rule, you are better off NOT tapping a toroid with a
progressively shorting switching system.
If you do short turns, you'll get a quick lesson in how "self-
shielding" the core really is.
