Several things come to mind, including:
1. RF cannot get to where it is normally supposed to go, i.e., a load.
2. RF getting into where it is normally not supposed to go, i.e. bugs, dirt,
dust, failed components, changed values, etc.
3. Operator error.
Most of these can be protected against, just like parasitics.
