I have seen interest in the past for a 1kw solid state amp on this link and 
also for other solid state amps.
    Possibly a group effort to build such an amp from two ARF1505's and 
document it?

They are supposed to use the same copper heat spreader and aluminum heat sink 
that the Motorola applications notes use
and available from CCI (Communications Concepts Incorporated).
