REPLY:
The amount of engineering that goes into a switching power supply just
about rules it out for homebrewers who are doing a one-off. Not to mention
gathering all the parts and assembling them. A big iron supply is way
simpler for most of us.
On the other hand, a commercial design where it is engineered once and
duplicated hundreds or thousands of times makes a lot of sense.
