I had the problem in the late 1980's when operating at multi singles. I heard stations I had not worked and I remember one prominent I4 tell me so sorry but he was in multiplier mode. Working me was illegal. There needs to be away to keep those contacts in a log as zero points so the other station does not lose the contact.
