HPS lights are a common source when the bulbs are defective. If the
photocell is good the light will cause RFI in night mode and the rift can be
on for several seconds and off for 2 or 3 times as long. If the Photo cell
is bad the light could generate rift 24/7. Using an o-scope the noise
pattern will be one spike per half cycle. These are hell on 40 and 75/80
meter bands.
However, not to miss lead anyone, not all sources that create 1 spike per
half cycle are HPS's.
