I have Jim's document (which is excellent), but I had never seen in it the 
discussion of Fair Rite's use of "loss factor." I do, however, understand more 
or less the losses that can be inuced by ferrites. K1FK sent me a short PDF 
that explains where "loss factor" comes from and derives it, so I think I have 
a better idea of what it is now.

Several times, I've referred questions like this to my RFI tutorial.  I spent 
years learning it, and months writing it up. I'm not going to repeat it here.
