This can be fixed by extending the center conductor out some from the end of 
the 
coax - and perhaps putting a ceramic insulator of some kind on it.  I do this 
with
RG8 - and it stands up to full power.

I have found that sometimes things work backwards from what you expect, and you 
might
find that moving the tap point up would increase the frequency.  Worth a try.
