You will find that the SteppIR beam will dramatically effect the tuning of the 
shunt fed tower tower. I retract (home) all the elements before loading on 
160M. That way there is consistent top loading for the tower from the antenna 
boom only. I have been running 1.5KW to a 160M (130 ft tall) shunt fed tower 
with a MonstIR this way for some time with no apparent consequences to the 
antenna. Only time will tell if this works out in the long run. I suspect it 
will be OK since the antenna boom is well connected to the mast and all the 
control cables are in very close proximity to the boom. In my case the control 
cables pass up through the center of the mast and only come out through the 
mast at the antenna. There is a 'DC ground' VHF antenna on top of the mast 
above the MonstIR.
