Just a remark about base loading. It does not, as someone suggested have
a bad reputation because of the proximity to any metal.
Picture in your mind a bow ( as is bow and arrow ) and let the bow
be your current distribution. Now, just where would the absolutely
worst position be to put in loading? And for a mobile, just use half
of the bow.
I believe it is a fairly well know fact that 66% of the radiation from
an antenna occurs within 33% of the center of a dipole, ect. ( or 16.5 %
each side of center )
That ought to be a pretty good hint where not to put a loading coil.
The above does not apply to impedence matching, which is an entirely
different subject.
