Tom,
Ox-gard, Noaalox and others are NOT great conductors. In fact if you
put on too much you will guaranty poor contact between the elements
whether you use a wire brush or not. The BEST way to use this is to put
a tiny bit on, work it in well with your finger and WIPE OFF with a
rag. This will provide some lubrication and not hurt the contact. If
you use it thickly then you will discover that it can make a pretty good
Insulator.
Suggest that you take it down, wipe everything off and then put it back
up.
W3EA told me that Home Depot has a compund like Ox-gard with tiny metal
filings in it so that it can lubricate AND will allow conductivity.
