Mike, I'm glad to hear of your problem - seriously. I have a US Tower
TMM-433SS crank-up tower that I am currently installing (the concrete footing
was poured 2 days ago). According to US Tower, the only rotor that will fit
in the tower, and allow it to fully retract, is the Yaesu G800S/G800SDX.

Here I am about to order one this week, and I hear this horror story of yours.
So, I'm anxiously awaiting replies from others who have this same model. I
think I'll hold off ordering a rotor until I hear some more experiences from
other owners. Also, of interest, would be a history of warranty service and
customer service (or lack thereof) from other Yaesu rotor owners.

I'm definitely not interested in doing any business with a manufacturer who
doesn't back his product.

Perhaps prop pitch motors are the way to go. Can anyone give me the
dimensions of the prop pitch motors?
