Very aptly put, Jeff!
It is disconcerting, to say the least, to come into the ham shack and hear music
coming out of my computer! Perhaps this is a wake-up call to us non-geeks that
outside sources certainly can manipulate our software (and hardware) at will. It
is kind of scary to me!
Perhaps Thorn can use his newly aquired spare time to do furthur reading before
he continues with his attempt to "help others." He has fallen into the
"Gap-Crap"
trap of believing that by increasing the feed point impedance and/or raising the
feed point above ground can reduce ground losses. One only has to do the math
a reason just a bit to see that the worms are just as warm under your antenna
with a 15 ohm feed point as they are with a 1000 ohm feed point. The only way
to reduce ground losses is to screen off the RF before it gets there.
Suggested reading is ON4UN's new book (1999) "Low Band DXing" and the postings
of W8JI here on the reflector. They are much better at conveying the subject of
ground losses than I.
Thorn need not go away with his tail between his legs; I was told when I first
logged
on to reflectors to use plain text and no unsolicited attachments. This did not
hurt
my feelings at all!
