when lifting a dead load with a single pulley you would have
the 500lbs of weight plus 500 pounds of downforce for a
total of 1000 lbs. With a 5:1 advantage you now have 500 lbs
of dead weight plus 100 lbs of downforce for a total of 600
lbs.
