Well, I didn't mean to be "jarring". :-)

It's just a personal opinion about aluminum.

Bill,

You have every right to feel this way. But I find
this sentiment, expressed in almost the same breath
as your complete openness to the question of beam
height vs. propagation objectives to be a little
jarring.

Why not be as open with regard to choice of mast
material?

W9RE has had a 5 el 20 ten feet up on an aluminum
mast for 25 years. Ditto myself with Telrex yagis,
etc. These masts aren't cheap, and they may not
be for everyone. But they could and should be
part of the choice set.

As we have all heard me (and others) say before,
the only thing made of aluminum that you should put in the air is an
antenna.

Masts, towers, bolts, nuts, lock washers "in the air" need to be steel.

This discussion of Masts is quite timely for me. I was planning on
using
schedule 80 Aluminum pipe for a TH-3MKIII and perhaps a rotatable dipole
for
17. Should I consider one of HRO's steel masts? Tom W6EIJ
