They need to be close to the water. From ZF2JB I had a vertical 5' from
the water with a reflector vertical in back. This worked very well. I
think further than a wavelength away there's little if any enhancement.

I'm wondering how the Cushcraft R7000 interacts with salt water QTHs. At
what distances from the salt water are the benefits of having the salt
water as opposed to average ground diminished and by how much for use on
10m-20m?

In other words, to take full advantage of a salt-water ground screen
would the vertical have to be right on the water or would say 1000ft
away from the water work just as well? How far could it be placed from
the water and still show noticiable improvements in performance from the
fact that there is salt water in the vicinity?
