I suspected this to be true and although it is an elementary question thanks
for the question and the answer.
K7LXC you raise another question with your comment ("Good reason to polish
the elements occasionally.")
Is this true? Does it really matter?

I have also been following the Force 12 comments with a comment of my own.
Last year we had a terrible ice storm here in Kansas City. And I was really
convinced that I was going to lose my C4SXL. I asked a friend from Michigan
if he ever had the scenario and he recommended I shoot my antenna with a
shotgun. I know it is not condoned(sp) but I did it and it "sprung" my C4SXL
back to life. A fellow ham a few miles away has a C4SXL as well and did NOT
shoot his. They are both standing and in good condition today. As for the
"skin effect and polishing scenario" how does "peaning" of the finish effect
the scenario, HI! The antennas work just fine although the frequecy
changed slightly after being stretched by the ice and peaned by the shotgun
pellets.
