The local wire rope company told me that when guy cables are bent around an
insulator or thimble and clamped that the strength of the cable is reduced
by 20%. He also said if you weaved the cable together over a thimble, the
strength is reduced by 5%.
Can someone confirm these numbers? Also, do you calculate any loss in
strength when using a guy grip? If not, then it would seem another advantage
of guy grips is less reduction on strength of the cable.
Guy grips are so much easier to use than cable clamps too. Just make sure
you buy the correct ones for the cable and application you are using.
For the very few places I use cable clamps, I opted for stainless steel ones
from Farmtech.
