Byron:

the BPL use the power lines to your house and never will use an antenna .

there are diferents plataforms to provide broadband internet to house users
or diferent size of bussines.
there are diferent freq to provide around 3-20 mbps license free, 900mhz,
2.4 ghz, 5.2 ghz, 5.8 ghs distances varies up to 40m in the 900mhz ,
but normal think less than 10 m. in that range you can trust in a good
service for a rural area no hill betwen , like valleys and that line of
sight connection.

this technology is more used to provide internet not only the Wireless lan
like WI-FI in the 2.4 that have several problems with distance and some
wx , coax loss and several things.

the most common tech is the Motorola Canopy, you can check in
www.motorola.com/canopy and find the small size of the antenna, easy to
mount and use reflector plates similar to the Dish Net, DTV ,etc.

maybe you have a market survey to provide a long range internet usign this
tech that is better solution than the BPL, and cheaper , they don't need a
power company for partner or joint venture in that kind of services.

" if say antenna don't worry , be happy.

Subject: [TowerTalk] Broadband Internet Service Letter

> Hello-
> I received a letter from an un-identified company in my area { Alvin,
TX} titled a " Feasibility Survey", regarding my interest { as a rural
potential customer } in high speed broadband internet service. They describe
the service as " a small antenna at my house and a broadcast tower a short
distance away". Is this the broadband over power lines type affair that we
have all been opposing? I wonder why the company does not identify
themselves?? The return address is a local post office box.
> A tactic is being used in this "feasibility survey" whereby a dollar
bill is enclosed in the letter and it is stated that if you answer "yes" to
the first question { " Are you interested in high speed broadband internet
service? } then you will be offered the lowest available price to subscribe.
A small postage-stamp size window is cut out of the front of envelope so
that you can see the dollar bill showing, as a sure method of getting you to
open the letter.
> Is this legal? Does anyone else have any experience with this type
affair or perhaps who is behind this business??
> Thanks, Byron WA5THJ.
