For many folks these days, a remote base is the only viable
compromise between reasonable proximity to the workplace
and affordable land big enough to support a reasonably
competitive ANTENNA TOWER farm. Two acres of land
around here will cost you ~$1 Million. If you go 90 miles
away 2 acres of undeveloped land can be had for ~$5000.
I don't think I could stomach a 180 mile/day commute
every day, so the only viable option for a sizeable ANTENNA
farm appears to be a remotely controlled base. In this case
given the propensity of computers to hang, having the ability
to remotely reboot the computer which is controlling the
ANTENNA ROTATORS, ANTENNA SWITCHES, transceivers,
and amplifiers is paramount. The frequency at which you will
need to visit a REMOTE ANTENNA SITE to perform hardware
resets will have a significant impact the tradeoff between site
proximity and the price of the land for the REMOTE ANTENNA
farm. The more robust the remote hardware the further away
it can be :):)

Did I make the connection?
